Mayor Jim Harrison was ready to opt in at their meeting on Monday night, but not all of council felt they were ready to make a decision.
Councillor Leslie Roseblade stated they still have time to make a decision and because they don’t even have a by-law ready, they just aren’t ready to opt-in or out.
Mayor Harrison explained why their decision has been deferred.
An online survey will be conducted based on the small time frame staff have to work within according to CAO Charlie Murphy.
Councillor Karen Sharpe also wants staff to reach out to the business community; DBIA and the Chamber of Commerce, to get their thoughts on whether they should opt in or opt out.
Councillor Al DeWitt told those around the horseshoe that while he was campaigning he heard about a number of issues and people being upset over legalization wasn’t one of them.
A decision will be made at their next meeting on January 21, just under the January 22 deadline.
