The province is investing millions into hospice’s across Ontario, and Hospice Quinte will be getting a piece of that pie.
Friday morning at the Bay View Mall offices for Hospice Quinte, MPP Todd Smith announced $1.2 million, to go towards a new six bed hospice in Bayside. He says the money is part of the province’s commitment to end hallway healthcare. The provincial announcement was for 193 new hospice beds, which cost about 1/3 of a acute care hospital bed.
Smith says Hospice Quinte was ready when the funding became available.

Hastings County Warden Rick Phillips is also Reeve of Tyendinaga Township, one of the communities that uses Hospice Quinte.

The facility will be constructed on land across from Bayside Secondary along Old Highway 2, with a completion date expected in the spring of 2021.
Executive Director May-Anderson says they have a $1 million commitment from the City of Quinte West, and annual operational funding of $105,000 per bed from the Southeast Local Health Integration Network, once the site opens.
The entire project is expected to cost up to $10 million.
