The Prince’s Trust Awards, held in the UK, recognize outstanding individuals who have overcome barriers to achieve success in their lives. The annual awards, which have been running since 2004, are presented at a high-profile ceremony in London in March.
This year, the first ever Global Award will be presented to recognize an individual who has been supported by The Prince’s Trust Group outside of the UK.
The award recipient is someone who has significantly benefitted from a Prince’s Trust program and whose success is an inspiration to others.
Prince’s Trust Canada nominated Jay McArthur, Canadian veteran and owner Rest Easy Home Inspections in Brighton, Ontario.
Jay is a graduate of the Prince’s Operation Entrepreneur (POE) program – a national program that provides transitioning military and veterans with the education, tools and resources they need to build confidence, develop networks and run their own successful businesses.
After serving 14 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, Jay was medically released from the military. The transition to civilian life was difficult for Jay and exacerbated by mental health issues. Thanks to the POE program, Jay was able to find a new life mission. He got the skills and knowledge to build his business, grew his confidence and found a new community of supporters.
Two years after graduating from POE’s seven-day intensive business boot camp at the University of Regina, Jay is thriving. His business has been growing exponentially and his health has improved tremendously.
In addition to personal and professional growth, participation in the program inspired Jay to give back to his community. He regularly volunteers his time to speak at events with donors and transitioning military members. He shares his compelling story about his struggles with mental health and the impact the program had on his business and life. Jay has become an important part of the veteran entrepreneurship community and an ambassador of the program.
