A busy day continues for Quinte West Firefighters.
They’re currently on the scene of a fully involved barn fire, at 71 Gallivan Road, which was reported at around 1:30 p.m.
The scene is near the intersection of Gallivan and Foxboro-Stirling Road, near Oak Lake.
Extra manpower was been requested from the Stirling Fire Department, along with tanker support from Belleville. There are approximately 40 firefighters on scene.
Fire Chief John Whalen says they managed to rescue 100 pigs from the blaze but 1,200 were lost in the blaze.
The fire is now under control but Whalen expects crews to be on scene for another four hours or so.
The Ontario Fire Marshal will be called in to investigate as damage is estimated at over $1 million.
