A bid to increase Belleville’s social services grant to 10% of the city’s casino revenue ran into a snag at Monday night’s council meeting, but then made it through.
The motion called for doubling the amount from 5% to 10%, putting the maximum that the fund can hand out at $50,000, up from $10,000.
Councillor Garnet Thompson said he had a concern about that, and called for holding it at $30,000.
The motion to cut the amount lost on a 5-4 vote, and the $50,000 maximum was approved.
