Hastings County social services department has received a “shout out” from the provincial government for its work in getting people back on the job.
CAO Jim Pine told county council Thursday that Executive Director Erin Rivers and her team “set an example” the government could use for its new social assistance reform plan.
Pine said the local team worked with businesses to determine what skills they looked for, and were able to get people back to work.
The government has announced it will focus on employment, connecting Ontario Works recipients to secure jobs, and launch pilot projects with certain municipalities to help the recipients find employment.
The new plan will include the creation of a new “Open for Business” website.
