There will be some changes to the next homelessness survey in Hastings County, in 2020.
Mayor of Centre Hastings Tom Deline told county council Thursday there are four or five homeless young people “surfing”, sleeping at a friend’s house, in his municipality, and it often has to do with mental health.
Steve van de Hoef, who managed the homelessness enumeration, says Kingston has come up with a case management approach for high school youth.
Hoef says 60% of the cases have some form of mental health issues and addiction.
He tells Quinte News the enumeration method should be changed in central and northern parts of the county for the next session in 2020 since there are a number of issues, including transportation in those areas.
