Emergency departments at Quinte region hospitals are getting busier these days, but it hasn’t been because of the flu.
Quinte Health Care’s Chief Nursing Officer Carol Smith Romeril says extra so-called “surge beds” are already being used as
many people are suffering from respiratory illnesses which most would simply call the common cold.
Smith Romeril says that so far there have been no confirmed cases of influenza in the area but those will come as they do every year.
Meanwhile, one local retirement residence is dealing with an outbreak of an unknown respiratory illness.
