Councillor Bill Roberts told those in council chambers even he is upset by what happened to cause the Integrity Commissioner to be called in to investigate an incident in Prince Edward County.
Council voted in favour of reprimanding Roberts on Tuesday night at Shire Hall, including Roberts himself, for his actions in which an email which contained ‘vulgar and abusive language’ was sent to his fellow councillors, a resident, the CAO and the clerk.
Roberts says he feels badly about the lapse in judgement he had but he is glad the new council will be able to move forward and past this.
He wanted the last council meeting of this council not to be about his code of conduct violation.
Roberts stated he would reach out to the resident involved for a third time and apologize by the end of this week.
Integrity Commissioner Robert Swayze recommended that Roberts not have any suspension of his salary for the incident.
Roberts says he believes councillors should be held to a higher standard and even though the email was inadvertent, he says it won’t happen again.
