The third annual Our TMH annual general meeting highlighted a productive year, but the group is encouraged by their progress to do more for the community.
Chair of the Board Mike Cowan says seeing the doctor recruitment program making progress is a good step in the right direction.
Earlier this year, the group signed on Dr. Ian Spreadbury to start a practice here in 2020.
Paula Mason, physician recruitment and retention coordinator for Our TMH, told those at the AGM she would like to create a new medical building for new doctors as lack of space is an issue they are dealing with.
The board also noted what they have their sights set on for 2019.
The board is going to start aggressively pushing for a dialysis centre in Trenton.
Chair Mike Cowan says they are going to hammer, push, shove, lean, kick, twist and do whatever they need to do to get this done.
He says they have the numbers to prove that the need for a dialysis centre is here.
Sharon Urquhart told those in attendance she knows of people who have refused dialysis treatment simply because the drive time required is too much.
There was also a bit of shock and disappointment at the AGM.
Melissa Davis from MP Neil Ellis’ office gave an update to the board on the Veterans Centre and it didn’t go over well.
She told those in attendance the government will be partnering with the Royal Ottawa Health Care Centre to provide a virtual centre for veterans dealing with PTSD.
Our TMH Chair Mike Cowan says they were disappointed with that news.
John Smylie said Ellis dropped the ball on what was promised to them as they need people on the ground to deal with those suffering with PTSD and he wants the group to express their displeasure with the news.
In terms of financial shape, things look good for the group.
As of June 30, 2018 their assets increased over 2017 by $1,900 bringing their total assets to $23,583.
Their liabilities also saw a slight increase of $2,503 over 2017.
There was a deficit in 2017 of $6,700 and this year there was a small surplus.
Their revenues for the year is up $2,600 to $18,776.
