The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is being asked to help in the investigation of a house fire in Brighton last (Monday) night.
Flames broke out in the basement of a large two-storey wood frame house at 86 Ontario Street in Brighton at 8 o’clock.
The residents, four adults and two children, escaped the home safely.
Over 30 Brighton firefighters fought the stubborn blaze with help from those from Cramahe and Hamilton Townships and Trent Hills.
The fire wasn’t declared under control until 3 o’clock this (Tuesday) morning.
Damage is estimated at around $800,000.
The cause is not considered suspicious but because of the damage amount the Fire Marshal’s Office has been called to help with the investigation.
