The Belleville Police Services Board will see crime statistics from the 3rd quarter of the year at its meeting this coming Tuesday morning.
Here are some of the highlights.
The number of total crimes reported during the 3rd quarter this year was 1,336, down significantly from the same time period in 2017 when 1,553 crimes were dealt with.
The report shows that the number of break and enters was up from last year. Police investigated 60
B&Es in the last quarter compared to 44 in the 3rd quarter last year.
Theft of motor vehicles was also up this year, to 23 from 11 in the same time period in 2017.
The number of crimes involving fraud also jumped noticeably in July, August and September of this year.
Police investigated 97 frauds in the quarter compared to 50 last year, a 77% increase.
There were also several more incidents involving criminal harassment in the third quarter this year than in 2017.
The number of reported incidents involving such crimes as uttering threats, assaults, homicides, and robberies showed no significant difference year to year.
