A traffic stop late Wednesday night in Hamilton Township has led to weapons charges according to Northumberland OPP.
Officers were conducting a RIDE program at Beavermeadow Road and Eagleson Road around 11 p.m. when they observed a vehicle travelling at a very slow rate of speed.
Police say the vehicle was illuminating a farm field known to have deer.
Officers attended the location and stopped a pickup truck that was found with a shot gun and loaded rifle inside.
Jake Samuel Foster, 27, of Port Hope is facing two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm and careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device of ammunition as well as charges under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act: Unlawfully Hunt at Night, Unlawfully Possess Firearm at Night, Unlawfully Use Light at Night, Use Illegal Firearm During Deer Hunt, Resident – Hunt Game Mammal Without Licence.
Dylan Jethro Ainsworth, 28, of Hamilton Township was also arrested and charged with Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order.
Both accused males were released and are scheduled to appear in Cobourg court on December 19.
