Napanee OPP say they are still investigating the death of a Tyendinaga Township man 10 years after he was killed while hunting just east of Belleville.
Forty-two-year-old Derrick (Roy) Thompson had left his home early in the morning on November 14, 2008, to go hunting in an area that he knew well, but didn’t return by dinner time.
His friends and family began searching for him and found him close to 10:00 that night in the woods near Blessington Road and Shannonville Road.
An investigation determined that Thompson was killed by a single gun shot wound.
Investigators believe that Thompson’s shooting may have been accidental but are still looking to identify the person responsible for his death.
Anyone with information on the incident can contact Detective Inspector Rob Hagerman, with the OPP’s Criminal Investigations Branch at 613-354-3369, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
