The United Way of Hastings Prince Edward is once again honouring one of its biggest contributors.
A red oak tree in Jane Forrester Park has been dedicated to Maurice Rollins, who has contributed more than $500,000 to the organization over the past 10 years, through his leadership challenge, where he matches donations made by the public.
The United Way’s Melanie Cressman tells Quinte News the leadership challenge can turn a smaller donation into a much more impactful one.
She adds that the dedication comes in a significant year for the organization.
Rollins says the reason he donates so much to the United Way is because they help so many other community organizations across the region.
The red oak is native to Ontario and symbolizes strength and survival.
