Belleville Police Service responded to 49 calls between November 6, 2018 at 5 a.m. and November 7, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Fallen wires cause electrocution
On November 6, 2018 police attended to the east end of the city for reports of heavy winds blowing, causing wires to fall. The first call was received at 11:29 a.m. in the Crestview Avenue area. This was a Bell line which was severed by high winds. Police remained on the location until technicians arrived to repair the damage.
At 12:13 p.m. police attended to the Golfdale Road area for another report of fallen wires. Information was received that Hydro lines had fallen. A female at the location reported her dog stepping onto the lines and getting electrocuted. The animal was raced to a veterinarian for treatment. There was no information on whether the animal survived. Police remained on scene as Belleville Fire and Veridian also attended to assist and repair the damage. No other injuries or property damage was reported.
Residential break enter and theft
On November 6, 2018 at 6:13 p.m. city police responded to a break-in at a home in the west hill area of Lewis Street. An investigation revealed that sometime between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., unknown suspect(s) entered the home through a rear door. Items stolen included a vehicle performance program tuner (valued at over $1,000), a laptop and change in Canadian currency. The investigation is continuing. Car crash results in charge
On November 6, 2018 at 9:34 p.m. police responded to a two-car motor vehicle collision in the Cannifton Road and College Street East area. Damage was reported to be major, with one involved vehicle having to be towed from the location. There were no reported injuries. This investigation concluded with a 67-year-old city woman being charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the offence of “start from stopped position – not in safety.” Anyone who may have witnessed this event is asked to contact investigating officer Cst.
