Postal workers here in Belleville have been called off the job.
Early today, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers announced rotating strikes in Belleville, Napanee, Kingston, Brockville and Cornwall.
These areas are in addition to the long list of communities in Southern Ontario that walked off the job this morning.
Peter McCathy, President of CUPW Local 502, says they were ready for when the call came.
He says the Belleville Local covers an area as far north as Bancroft, west to Brighton and south to Picton.
McCarthy says they have been negotiating with Canada Post for almost a year now.
Workers at the country’s largest processing center in Toronto walked off the job for the second time in three weeks today as well.
Canada Post says there is no date as to when the strike will end.
