It is not clear how many people will be out of work early in the New Year when Lowe’s closes around 30 Canadian stores.
All but four of them are Rona or affiliate-named stores — nine in Ontario, nine in Quebec, six in Newfoundland and Labrador, two in Alberta and one in BC.
The US retailer acquired Quebec-based Rona two years ago in a deal valued at $3.2 billion.
Kingston and Peterborough stores will be closing, but Belleville is not believed to be on the chopping block.
