The province’s Special Investigations Unit is looking into the death of a 40-year-old man near Bancroft.
According to the SIU, Durham Regional Police were called to a possible abduction in Oshawa, around 3:15 this morning and a vehicle believed to be involved in that case was found a few hours later by OPP on Highway 28 in Apsley.
The initial SIU report says officers followed the vehicle onto Tuckers Road and exchanged words with the driver, who was still in the car.
The report says, as officers approached the vehicle, the driver “sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene”.
A woman who was also in the vehicle was taken to hospital for treatment.
Three SIU investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case and no further details were released.
