Hastings County is throwing its weight behind a bid to develop a Regional Newcomer Immigration Strategy.
At its recent meeting, County Council decided to have Warden Rodney Cooney write a letter in support of a Provincial Rural Economic development grant, for the Centre for Workforce Development, to help develop the strategy.
County Marketing Co-ordinator Luisa Sorrentino tells Quinte News that what started as a tool to help newcomers look for information on the Immigration Portal is now moving toward getting a regional immigration strategy.
This would be used to attract and retain people in the region.
Sorrentino says Hastings County faces the same challenges as others involved in the portal.
Cities of Belleville and Quinte West, The Counties of Prince Edward and Hastings as well as Quinte Economic Development and Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board are all supporting the Centre for Workforce Development in its effort to gain the RED funding for the strategy.
