A local driver has won a week-long off-road race across the United States, which means a significant donation for a local charity.
Prince Edward County’s Michelle Laframboise and her co-driver Elise Racette, of Mirabel Quebec, tied for first place in the 2018 Rebelle Rally and will donate the $2,500 in winnings to Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
The women’s only race is the longest competitive off-road rally in the US and spans over 2,500 kilometres of desert, dirt roads, trail and sand dunes.
Drivers sleep in tents along the route, during the eight days of the race and this year 41 teams took part.
Laframboise and Racette, who have raced in the event before, say they’ve already registered to race again in 2019.
