It was great timing by Brighton Council to move forward with the MBBR upgrade to the wastewater treament plant, as a provincial order was received on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Environment has given Brighton until May 1, 2019 to have all plans and approvals in place and get to work installing the system.
Since June 2008, ammonia levels exceeded provincial standards 65 times and the municipality faced several fines over the past few years.
Mayor Mark Walas said he was pleased that the order in no way identified the need for a mechanical plant.
Acting CAO Gary King was given the go-ahead to move forward with the project.
