The Belleville Police Service Association and the auxiliary constables have made a significant contribution to a local initiative.
They held a fundraiser earlier this month at the Dugout to raise funds for the Challenger baseball project.
Dylan Becker, an auxiliary constable with Belleville Police says they wanted to give back to the community and this project was the one they decided on.
The auxiliary unit was able to raise over $4,600 with their fundraising night and the Belleville Police Service Association chipped in with a $1,000 contribution.
Challenger Baseball Field of Ability committee member Geoff Cudmore says this donation is very important for them.
There has been $160,000 raised locally already for this project.
The Field of Ability is currently one of the final four projects up for a $250,000 grand prize as part of the Kraft Heinz Project Play.
Cudmore says if they were to win, it would allow for shovels to be in the ground in the spring.
Members of the Auxiliary Unit include: Becker, Leigh McCormick, Ryan Fox and Sadi Montgomery.
The Field of Ability project has been in the works for two years.
