Over the course of 30 years, the Medigas Celebrity Classic has helped to improve the city by making it accessible for all.
This afternoon (Thursday) a groundbreaking ceremony was held at West Riverside Park to mark the beginning of the final project.
Boyd Sullivan says he hopes this is part of a bigger picture.
The new fully accessible pavilion will be built adjacent to the Rick Meagher-Medigas Pirate Ship, The Lady Nicole, located in West Riverside Park.
This pavilion is similar in design to the Tom Gavey Memorial Pavilion at West Zwicks Park, which was also a Medigas Celebrity Classic community project.
This is the fourth accessible park in which the committee and the City of Belleville have partnered.
The group has helped to raise $3 million over 30 years to help Quinte area children who are faced with physical and mental challenges and their families live better lives.
The group has also provided 60 high school graduates who were pursuing post-secondary education in healthcare with $5,000 scholarships.
