Belleville City Council will vote today on a proposed route change for the upcoming Santa Clause Parade on November 18.
The chamber says emergency services personnel are citing safety concerns as the main reason the route should change, with the proposed route to be from the fairgrounds all the way across Bridge Street to the Bayview Mall, instead of through the downtown and up to King George Square.
The Hastings Prince Edward School Board says if council denies the route change, the Quinte Secondary School property could be used as a staging point for floats, but Chamber CEO Jill Raycroft says using that site adds some complications to the plan.
The chamber says it will re-evaluate the route again next year, regardless of the decision made on this year’s parade.
