The Belleville Police Service responded to 74 calls between September 26, 2018 at 5 a.m. and September 27, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Shoplifting occurrences
On September 26, 2018 at 5:04 p.m. police attended to a north end shopping centre for a call about people stealing merchandise. Police were advised that two males were observed stealing merchandise and fleeing from the store. A description of one male was provided as being 6′ tall wearing a gray hooded shirt with turquoise strings hanging from it. This male left the area in what was described as a lime-green coloured pickup truck. An investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about this is asked to contact investigating officer Cst. At 5:35 p.m. police attended the same location for a report of a man stealing merchandise. An investigation resulted in the arrest of 25-year-old Thomasburg, Ontario resident Matthew Jayson Dunning. Dunning was taken into custody and charged with theft under $5,000 and breach of a recognizance. He was released on an undertaking with conditions and a promise-to-appear in court later this month.
West end automobile crash
On September 26, 2018 at 9 p.m. police responded to the area of Moira Street West for a report of a motor vehicle striking another parked vehicle. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The investigation demonstrated that a male driver had suffered a medical condition event. There were no reported injuries, and no charges filed.
Other assistance
Police responded to numerous other calls for assistance including unwanted persons, alarms, suspicious persons and vehicles, liquor occurrences, assist ambulance, traffic hazards, and a dozen 911 calls /911 hangups within the preceding 24-hour period. All of these were solved as people called 911 by pocket-dial, other information, and simple hangups on operators. Nobody was found to be in any distress at any of the locations checked.
