The Belleville Police Service responded to 78 calls for service between September 25, 2018 at 5 a.m. and September 26, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Motor vehicle collisions
On September 25, 2018, police responded to eight motor vehicle collisions.
At 9:58 a.m. officers attended on the Norris Whitney Bridge for a two-car collision. It was minor in nature and no one was injured.
At 10:27 a.m. officers attended on Bell Blvd at Sidney Street regarding a two-car collision. This was another minor incident with no injuries.
At 11:35 a.m. officers attended in a parking lot on Millennium Parkway regarding a minor accident. There were no injuries.
At 11:36 a.m. officers attended at Meyers Pier regarding a two-car collision where one of the vehicles had failed to remain. The investigation is continuing.
At 11:56 a.m. officers re-attended at Bell Blvd at Sidney Street regarding a two-car collision. One of the vehicles had failed to remain at the scene and was last seen fleeing southbound on Sidney Street. Paramedics treated the driver at the scene. The hit and run vehicle was located in the city’s east end a short time later. As a result of the investigation a 24-year-old Belleville woman was charged with careless driving causing bodily harm, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, and being an unlicenced driver. She was also charged with careless driving for her driving actions after the accident. She was summonsed to appear in Traffic Court on November 5, 2018.
At 4:12 p.m. officers attended on Sidney Street at Roblin Road in relation to a four-car collision. A joint investigation was conducted with the Quinte West OPP. A 58-year-old Stirling man was arrested for impaired driving. He was charged with impaired driving and “over 80 mgs” and will appear in court in October.
At 4:20 p.m. officers attended on Millennium Parkway regarding a two-car collision. It was referred to the Collision Reporting Centre.
At 9:33 p.m. officers attended on West Moira Street at Yeomans Street in relation to a two-car collision. Belleville Fire Department also attended as smoke was reported billowing out from one of the cars. Both cars were towed from the scene. A 35-year-old Belleville woman was charged with disobeying a stop sign. No one was injured.
**While investigating this collision officers observed the stolen black Chevrolet Impala from the night before drive by the accident scene. A traffic stop ensued and the two adults inside were arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle. A search inside revealed a purse containing scales, a debt list and a large amount of cash. A short time later a woman approached and claimed ownership of the purse as well as the car. In her purse were two bills of sales for the car. The investigation is focusing on the authenticity of the first bill of sale. The two adults who were initially arrested were released unconditionally. The investigation is continuing.
Stolen vehicle
Belleville, Ontario – On September 25, 2018, at 6:25 a.m. police attended on Adam Street regarding the theft of a vehicle overnight. Taken was a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 pickup truck. It is black in colour with orange on the sides which reads “Take Mike for Granite”. There is a large boom in the back. The licence plate is Ontario AR11299.
