Quinte West’s Planning Advisory Committee will consider regulating how buildings can be secured.
At the meeting tomorrow (Thursday), city staff is recommending approval of a so called Fortification By-law.
The by-law is meant to make it illegal to heavily fortify residences and most businesses. The by-law would prevent steel plates or heavy mesh over windows and concrete over doors, among many other things.
Observation towers would not be allowed. The Fortification By-law is meant to impede the use of otherwise normal properties being used for illegal purposes.
Banks, detention centres, schools, and courthouses would be exempt.
Quinte West’s Planning Advisory Committee meets at 6 p.m. Thursday at city hall.
