City staff are already thinking about the Christmas season.
the City of Belleville is looking for donations of large spruce trees to be used as part of their annual Christmas lighting program.
City staff will inspect the trees and if suitable, they will be placed in prominent locations such as Jane Forrester Park, City Hall/Market Square and the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
Anyone with a 24 foot or higher spruce tree in their yard or property who would like to donate it are asked to contact the city’s Environmental and Operational Services Department.
“Trees offered in the past have generally outgrown the homeowner’s lot or have to be removed for construction of an addition – well-formed blue or white spruce trees are preferred,” stated Larry Glover, Manager of Parks and Open Space, City of Belleville Environmental and Operational Services. “Tree removal equipment will be required to access the tree so trees on a side street or in the side yard are usually the most suitable for this purpose.”
After the holiday season, these trees will be chipped and used as mulch in the City’s ongoing park program.
