Brighton council has passed a new salary grid for the new council.
Monday night, council approved a staff report that would see the mayor’s salary go to $31,436, the deputy-mayor’s to $24,671 and councillor salaries to $16,479.
The report showed current council salaries in Brighton as being below average for a community of its size.
And, following the lead of many other councils, the increases reflect the fact that council members can no longer receive one third of their salary tax-free as had been the case previously.
Council members will also receive a $60 “per diem” rate for municipal meetings.
The increases will take effect January 1 and will be increased annually by the rate of the Consumer Price Index increases.
