Two from returnee helps Golden Hawks win home opener
A pair of goals from a returning forward lifted the Trenton Golden Hawks to a 3-1 victory over the Whitby Fury in their home opener Friday night.
Newly named assistant captain Tiger McDonald bookended the scoring, notching Trenton’s first goal of the season and a late insurance marker. Captain Peter Falivena picked up the other marker, which stood as the game-winner.
Ben Allard-Robitaille stopped 21 shots for the win in net.
The G-Hawks welcome the Georgetown Raiders to the Duncan McDonald Community Gardens Sunday at 7 p.m.
Wild night in the County, Dukes lose first game
A modest three-game winning streak to start the year is over for the Wellington Dukes.
The Brantford 99’ers topped the hosts 7-5 in an offensive-minded game.
Tyson Gilmour led the scoring for Wellington with three points, while Ben Woodhouse and Andrew Rinaldi added a goal and an assist each.
The Dukes entertain the Brampton Admirals Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Lehigh Arena.
Raiders pummel Pirates in Jr C opener
The local Jr C season opened Friday night as well and the Napanee Raiders looked like they were it mid-season form on home ice.
The Raiders, who won all but three regular season games in 2017-18, ran over the Picton Pirates by an 8-2 score.
Reid Humphrey notched four points for Napanee in the victory, Dayton Kent chipped in with three.
Matt Poole scored both goals for Picton.
