Belleville Transit buses have been significantly busier so far this year as compared to the same period in 2017.
To the end of August, just over 725,000 riders have used Belleville public transit, up almost 12 percent from last year.
Chair of the city’s Transit Advisory Committee, Jack Miller, says there are two main reasons for the increase in ridership, one being the increased enrollment of international students at Loyalist College.
If ridership trends continue the number of riders on Belleville Transit should hit the one million mark by sometime in November, something that’s only been once before and that was decades ago.
