A Belleville councillor believes the new provincial government is genuinely interested in serious discussions about Veridian Corporation purchasing Hydro One territory in Thurlow ward and small parts of urban Belleville.
Thurlow councillor Paul Carr spoke to a Parliamentary Assistant for the Minister of Energy in Ottawa Tuesday.
The City of Belleville and Veridian have long discussed a desire to take over the power system in the rural area from Hydro One and Carr says it could mean significant reductions in hydro costs for residents and businesses alike.
Veridian has long operated the power system in urban Belleville. The city is a part owner of the corporation and the more customers it has, the larger dividend payments are likely to be to the city.
