Belleville Police Service responded to 50 calls for service from August 19, 2018 at 5 a.m. to August 20, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Theft
On August 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. police attended a north end grocery store with regards to the theft of a purse. While shopping throughout the store, the victim had her purse in her shopping cart. When she turned for a moment, a male grabbed the victim’s purse and ran from the store. The purse was located a short distance away by another customer and returned, minus some cash. Police will be viewing store video in an attempt to identify the suspect. If anyone has information with regards to the theft they are encouraged to call Cst. Mooney at 613-966-0882 ext. 4180.
Failing to Stop for Police
On August 19, 2018 at approximately 2:20 p.m. police attempted to initiate a traffic stop of a motorcycle on River Rd. in Thurlow Township. The operator of the motorcycle refused to stop and entered an unused rail bed in an attempt to evade police. A short time later, police observed the same motorcycle southbound on Cannifton Rd. North and followed it to a residence where the driver dumped the motorcycle in a backyard and fled on foot. Police located the male driver and he was arrested and taken to The Belleville Police Service. The 38-year-old Belleville resident was later released with a number of charges including failing to stop for police and driving while his licence was suspended.
