Motor vehicle collisions
Belleville, ONT – On August 18, 2018 at 10:16 a.m. police responded to a two motor vehicle collision in the east end of the city. The investigation revealed the matter to be a ‘failing to remain’ occurrence. No injuries were reported, and damage was minor to both vehicles. A second motor vehicle collision was reported on August 18, 2018 at 2:41 p.m. from a business parking lot in the west end of the city. Nobody was injured. Damage was minor.
Single vehicle rollover
Belleville, ONT – On August 18, 2018 at 3:05 p.m. police attended to the north end of the city on River Road for a single vehicle rollover. Belleville Fire Services also assisted in the emergency, and the vehicle had to be towed. Moderate damage was reported. The driver and a young child in the vehicle were unharmed. An investigation resulted in a 26-year-old city woman being charged with failing to provide a breath sample and careless driving. She was released from custody on an appearance notice and is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in September. Child Protection Services have also been notified and are now involved in the investigation.
Theft of high end sun glasses
Belleville, ONT – On August 18, 2018 at 4:21 p.m. police responded to a business in the north-west area of the city for a report of numerous pairs of sunglasses being stolen. A male entered the business kiosk and “jimmied” the locking mechanism, leaving with a dozen sets of sunglasses. The value of the stolen items is believed to be about $2,000. Police are continuing the investigation with security camera inspection of the area and are asking anyone with information, or who may have witnessed this to contact investigating officer Cst. Liquor arrest
Belleville, ONT – On August 19, 2018 at 12:15 a.m. police were called to the area of Bettes Street and Station Street for a report of a male acting strangely. Police attended and an investigation resulted in a 25-year-old Niagara Falls, Ontario man getting arrested and charged for public intoxication. The man was taken into custody and lodged in a cell for the night before being released when sober later in the day.
Other calls for assistance
Belleville, ONT – Police responded to numerous other calls for assistance between August 18 and August 19, 2018. Some of these included alarms, assisting ambulance, child custody disputes, suspicious persons, trespassing, and noise complaints. All matters were solved as “non-criminal” in nature with police providing advice and assisting people in need. People located at noise complaints were all warned about the by-law in effect. All complaints were resolved without charges.
