Motor vehicle collisions
On August 17, 2018 police investigated three motor vehicle collisions. One collision was handled through the Collision Reporting Centre. Another collision occurred at 10:11 a.m. in the area of North Front Street and Valleyview Crescent. One vehicle backed out of a parking space striking a vehicle which was stopped at the intersection waiting at a red light. There were no injuries, but a ‘failing to remain’ investigation is underway as the offending vehicle left the area. Crash sends one to hospital
On August 17, 2018 at 7:50 a.m. police were called to Old Highway 2 for a report of a collision involving heavy damage and injuries. Belleville Fire Services also assisted in the emergency. An investigation revealed that one motor vehicle travelling westbound was struck by another vehicle which was travelling eastbound which had crossed the centre line. A 54-year-old city man was transported to hospital with minor injuries while a 21-year-old city man was charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act. Theft charge
On August 17, 2018 at 1:24 p.m. police were called to a north end shopping centre for a report of a man stealing merchandise. An investigation resulted in 30-year-old Matthew Harvey getting arrested and charged with theft – under $5,000. He was released from custody on an appearance notice to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in September.
