On August 5, 2018 just after 12:00 p.m. the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with emergency personnel responded to a motor vehicle collision on County Road 45 south of Minnetonka Road in the area of the Alderville First Nation.
An SUV that was being towed behind a southbound motorhome became detached and crossed the centre line and struck a northbound motorcycle, causing the rider to be ejected. The male rider was transported to a Toronto area trauma center by ORNGE air ambulance with serious injuries.
On Monday August 6, 2018, 52-year-old Daniel Westover of Port Colborne, Ontario died as a result of the injuries he sustained.
The OPP Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI) attended the scene to assist detachment officers with the investigation. The investigation into the cause of this collision is still ongoing.
County Road 45 was closed to traffic between 1st Line Road and County Road 18 near Roseneath, Ontario for several hours. No other injuries were reported.
