Speeding dominated the charges laid by the Belleville Police Traffic Safety Unit last month.
TSU officers handed out 251 tickets in July, 130 of them for speeding.
Fifty-two tickets were given for using a cell phone while driving, totaling almost $21,000 in fines.
Twenty-two charges were laid for expired tags, 14 for driving without a licence and eight each for obscured plates, or driving with a suspended licence.
Some other notable stats include:
- July 3: 26 drivers were charged for speeding on Casey Road, with nine of them going at least 30 km/h over the limit.
- July 4: 30 drivers were charged with speeding on Dundas Street West
- July 19 – July 25: 29 drivers got cell phone tickets near the intersection of North Front Street and Bell Boulevard.
