Prince Edward Yacht Club member David Lanning skippered “War Paint” to a first place finish in the 14-boat fleet of Division 1 in the Long Distance Race at the Eastern Yachting Circuit Regatta on the weekend.
Lanning then went on to a second place finish after two days of sailing in the Course Races. The core of his nine member crew are members of the Bay of Quinte Yacht Club who sail locally aboard Flintlock and Irish Rover.
“War Paint” also won the trophy for 1st overall after handicap for all boats in all divisions in the Long Distance Race and 3rd overall in the Course Races. “Overall” included all 62 boats of all divisions
Tom Dolan of the Bay of Quinte Yacht Club skippered “Meggie J” to a 4th place finish in the 12-boat fleet of Division 4 in the Long Distance Race (2 seconds out of 3rd after 5 ½ hours of sailing) as well as a 4th place finish in the course racing.
Kristine Davis also of BQYC skippered “Spankin’ Mad” to a 4th place finish in the 13-boat fleet of Division 2 in the course racing and 7th in the Long Distance Race.
The Eastern Yachting Circuit Regatta is an annual three day sailing event for keel boats. EYC includes clubs from both sides of the border on the eastern end of Lake Ontario. Hosting of the event alternates between clubs in Canada and the United States. This year’s event was hosted by the Kingston Yacht Club.
