After more than four years in limbo, the application for rezoning for a quarry in Tyendinaga Township will go to a vote this fall.
C.H. Holdings Inc. wants to double its capacity by opening a new quarry on Melrose Road, near its present one.
The possibility that the company wants to take water from a pond and a well on the site, raised concerns by residents.
Township CAO Steve Mercer says consultants have completed a peer review.
QUARRY REZONING MERCER
At its meeting Monday night, township council decided a public meeting will be held October 13, and Tyendinaga council is expected to vote on the rezoning application two weeks later.
Belleville has been keeping an eye on the project since Thurlow Ward wells might be affected, and the present quarry already creates truck traffic on one of its roadways.
Meanwhile a provincial licence application by the company went to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal in April of this year.
Melrose Quarry is a 60-acre site, northeast of Long’s Quarry, east of Shannonville Road, north of Melrose Road.
