Northumberland OPP say they’ll be cracking down on commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) over the next week, as part of a province-wide campaign, called Operation Safe Trucking.
The blitz will run between July 15 and 21 focusing on CMV drivers who may be distracted, driving aggressively or impaired.
Officers will also be looking for proper seat belt use, load security, checking in on hours of service laws and more.
The OPP says it investigates thousands of CMV crashes every year, with 2017 marking a ten-year high in fatal CMV crashes.
Ninety-one people were killed in 76 fatal CMV crashes last year, with OPP already investigating more than 3,600 collisions involving commercial trucks this year.
