Bay of Quinte riding MPP and Government House Leader Todd Smith says green energy company wpd shouldn’t be expecting any money from the provincial government.
Smith was reacting to comments from the President of wpd Canada Ian McRae that the company planned to sue the government for the millions of dollars it has spent so far building the nine-turbine White Pines project in Prince Edward County.
The PC government announced Tuesday that it will soon pass legislation cancelling White Pines.
McRae estimated around $100 million had been spent by wpd on the project.
In an interview on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show, Smith said his party’s intentions regarding the local wind farm were well known and he’s surprised by McRae’s comments that the cancellation news came out of the blue.
Meanwhile, Smith also said that nobody should be surprised about the cancellation of the Liberal’s cap and trade program as it was a major part of the platform the PCs were elected on.
He says the cap and trade scheme was bad for manufacturers and many other businesses.
Smith said there are other funding streams within the provincial government budget that deal with school repairs, cycling trails and other infrastructure.
