Prince Edward County Mayor Robert Quaiff says there was complete jubilation when the word came down the PC Party was cancelling the White Pines wind project.
Council in Prince Edward County has been opposed to this project since 2013 and they were not a willing host.
Quaiff says there were almost tears of joy, which is a complete 180 from how he felt just a few days ago.
Quaiff in a press release stated the nine industrial wind turbines in South Marysburgh would be detrimental to their pristine and natural environment and their world-renowned reputation as a culturally and historically rich tourism destination.
He said the strong continued outcry of residents and community groups helped keep this issue at the forefront of people’s minds.
Nine wind turbines were slated to be constructed in South Marysburgh and a portion of Athol.
The first turbine went up on Monday.
