New residential construction is down for single family homes in the Belleville Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) but up for multi-unit residential for the first six months of this year.
According to data from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, building permits for single family houses were issued for 149 units by the end of June, down from 176 in the same period last year.
However, permits for 127 units of multi-residential were issued this year, more than double the 60 units in 2017.
Meanwhile, Statistics Canada that the value of all building permits in the Belleville CMA was $27.3 million for the month of May, down from $27.3 million in May of last year.
The Belleville CMA includes the City of Belleville, City of Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon and Tyendinaga.
