Belleville Police Service responded to 58 calls for service from July 2, 2018 at 5 a.m. to the July 3, 2018 at 5 a.m.
E Bike Violation
At approximately 7 p.m. on July 2, a member of the Belleville Police Traffic Management Unit stopped a 25-year-old male on Hwy 2 east of Belleville operating an E bike at 66 kpm. The bike was found to be modified so that it would travel at a rate of speed higher than that of the original factory specifications. Once an E bike is modified in such a manner it no longer is considered an E bike and falls under the category of an electric motorcycle. The male was charged with modifying the bike and was further charged with suspended driving and operating a motor vehicle with no insurance. The bike was towed and the male will have a court date in August to answer to the charges. Owners of E bikes are warned to be cognizant of the ramifications of modifying their bikes.
Breach of Undertaking
As a result of an investigation stemming from a call for service on June 30, a 30-year-old Belleville male was arrested on July 2 for breaching his undertaking with regards to residence and curfew violations. He is being held in custody for a show cause hearing July 3.
Stolen Truck, Trailer and Loader
Shortly before 7 p.m. on July 2, police attended the Quinte Mall parking lot with regards to a Black 2016 Dodge Ram that was stolen sometime that afternoon. Attached to the truck was a flat bed with a New Haulage skid steer/loader on it. The truck bears licence plate marker AM88555 on it and the flatbed R9486M. If anyone has any information with regards to the truck, flatbed or loader they are encouraged to call Belleville Police Service or Crimestoppers.
Arrest on Warrant
Shortly after 3 a.m. on July 3, Belleville officers met officers from the Napanee detachment of the OPP and took into custody a 29-year-old Belleville male who the OPP arrested during a traffic stop in the town of Napanee on the strength of an arrest warrant that was issued by Belleville Police stemming from an incident in the city on June 6. The warrant was for breach of probation and the male is being held in custody for a show cause hearing on July 3.
