The Belleville Police Service responded to 61 calls between July 1, 2018 at 5 a.m. and July 2, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Neighbour dispute
On July 1, 2018 at 12:24 p.m. police were called to a neighbour dispute in the south-west area of the city. An investigation revealed the dispute was between two citizens about a parking issue. An argument became heated between the two, and the situation was resolved upon police departure. Nobody was arrested or charged.
Liquor offences
On July 1, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. police attended to a reported assault at a location in the south-west area of the city. It was revealed upon further investigation that there was a minor scuffle between two men. Nobody was injured and one male did not wish to lodge any complaint. Police did arrest a 38-year-old city man for the offense of public intoxication. The man was held in police custody until sober and released with an offence notice.
On July 2, 2018 at 1:04 a.m. police arrested a 21-year-old Quinte West man for the offence of public intoxication outside an establishment on North Front Street. The man was involved in a disturbance outside the location and was being restrained by friends as police approached. The man was arrested for his own protection, and for the protection of others. He was brought to police cells and held until sober. The man was later released on an offense notice. There were no reported injuries.
Family dispute
On July 1, 2018 at 7:56 p.m. police attended to a report of a family dispute in the east end of the city. An investigation revealed a dispute between a father and his son had occurred. Police were able to calm the situation. A young male was cautioned and was taken to a different address of a family member for the evening.
Traffic enforcement
On July 1, 2018 at 8:20 p.m. a traffic safety unit officer stopped a driver on the east side of the city. The investigation resulted in a 55-year-old man being charged with the offences of driving without a licence and driving without insurance. He had his vehicle towed from the location. The man was released by way of summons to appear in provincial traffic court in August.
Domestic dispute
On July 1, 2018 at 9:31 p.m. police attended to a reported domestic dispute in the north end of the city. An investigation revealed a minor physical altercation between a man and a woman over a phone. Police were able to calm the situation. The man left the home for the evening on agreement. Alcohol was a factor in this incident.
Breach of bail
On July 2, 2018 at 1:09 a.m. police were called to the North Park Street area for a report of a man refusing to leave a property. Police attended, investigated and arrested a 31-year-old man for two counts of breaching his recognizance of bail. The man is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
