There is great news for Belleville General Hospital staff and patients alike.
The Quinte 5 Medicine Unit will be open for business again tomorrow (Wednesday) after being damaged by fire and smoke in the early part of May.
QHC President Mary Clare Egberts says the 44-patient unit is a much brighter place to be than it has been in the past, thanks to excellent work by the tradespeople on the job. The unit is being re-opened ahead of the original target date of July 9.
Egberts had high praise for the staff handling the evacuation of patients on the night of the fire but says improvements can always be made.
Recommendations like better sealed fire separations, more incident management training, and more joint training with fire departments are being shared with other hospitals throughout Ontario.
