A Quinte West woman charged with second degree murder made her first court appearance this afternoon (Tuesday).
Nicole Lorraine Scardino appeared briefly in front of Justice Christopher Peltzer at the Quinte Consolidated Courthouse where she was remanded into custody.
The 45-year-old woman is facing charges following the death of 49-year-old Samuel Joseph Andrews in Trenton earlier this month.
Scardino was quiet as she stood in the prisoner’s box with duty counsel Pieter Kort at her side.
Justice Peltzer granted a detention order at Hastings County Assistant Crown Attorney Mike Lunski’s request.
A publication ban on names listed in a non-communication order was also put in place.
Scardino will next appear in court on June 28 at 10 a.m.
Quinte West OPP were called to a private residence on West Street in Trenton on June 16 shortly before 1:30 p.m. for the report of a single motor vehicle collision where a pedestrian was struck.
Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries.
OPP confirm the incident took place in the driveway of the residence.
The pair had been in a relationship.
Scardino was charged in connection with the Trenton man’s death on June 25.
The investigation is ongoing.
Police are asking any one who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.
