The future of Brighton’s YMCA is under review after Brighton Council put a motion on the floor to reduce its space to allow more space for doctors.
Mayor Mark Walas said he was disappointed that some members of council brought this closed session item into the open before holding a discussion in closed.
He said he felt there was a way to satisfy both groups but he didn’t have the opportunity to bring his thoughts to council first.
The first motion was to reduce the footprint of the YMCA, but that failed after much arguing.
Another motion went on the table to direct staff to begin negotiations with both the Y and the Brighton Family Health Team.
The YMCA contract with the municipality expires later this year.
