The local organization that has sponsored the relocation of 24 Syrian refugees says their efforts are working and the group of now Canadian residents is contributing greatly to the region.
Ian Sutherland says pretty well all of the family members who have immigrated through the United Syrian Family Support group are excelling in ESL classes, the adults have found jobs in the community and the younger ones are doing well in local schools.
Sutherland tells Quinte News the success stories show real benefits of helping refugee families, contrary to what some critics might say.
He says the group has spent close to $150,000 of the $200,000 it has raised and is still looking to try and relocate another seven related families, who are in refugee camps overseas.
